One one hand, I envy the young generation because they have unlimited access to thousands of amazing games for very cheap. Pirating a collection containing every game released before the year 1996 is trivial, and grabbing individual titles isn't hard either. The official distribution systems for many games are also convenient. The kids these days are spoiled for choice while I was restricted to 1-2 new games on my birthday or christmas, and whatever my friends had. The indie scene has also popped off in an exciting way.

On the other hand, every year are fewer AAA game releases and larger spans of time between them. No e3 in the summer either. It sounds awfully dull compared to the crazy times that were 1990-2010. Kids are also constantly getting fleeced by f2p games like Fortnite, and even purchased games like Minecraft are littered with microtransactions.

Hopefully kids will still have the patience for older, harder games in the future. I think there's genuine value in the humility gained from being pubstomped that bot lobbies detract from.
